KNYSNA, South Africa – Jaguar’s all-new F-Pace had its official South African debut at the Jaguar-sponsored Simola Hillclimb on Sunday (May 8 2016) during the lunch break.

Jaguar’s first SUV was flown in on a platform slung below a giant Sikorsky helicopter which circled ‘Gasoline Alley’ and the event’s pits before being set down in view of thousands of spectators and then driven down Simola Hill by South African actor and Jaguar ambassador Sharlto Copley.

The car then went on display at the Simola golf course hotel.

Jaguar SA’s marketing director Lisa Mallett described the F-Pace as “the kind of car that you could drive across the country to visit Knysna and then take on the high-speed twists and turns of the challenging hill-climb”.

She added: “The Jaguar Simola Hillclimb was the perfect setting to unveil the F-Pace. It has dynamic capabilities and performance synonymous with Jaguar but also brings a new level of practicality and all-wheel drive ability to the brand.”

The car, Jaguar says, has the brand’s aluminium-intensive architecture, is light and agile. “It also retains Jaguar’s sports-car DNA with double-wishbone front suspension – the same design as on our XE and XF sport sedans.”

Power comes from a three-litre supercharged V6 capable of 280kW that drives through an eight-speed auto transmission with the potential to launch from rest to 100km/h in 5.5sec and, despite having all-wheel drive, “retains the rear-wheel drive feel of Jaguar’s sports cars”.

Even rear passengers will have power adjustment for their heatable and reclinable seats.
