New Suzuki Super Carry a world-first for SA
First LCV to be introduced by Suzuki SA
750kg payload, decent load bed

The all-new Suzuki Super Carry compact bakkie is making its global debut outside its home market (India) right here in South Africa.
The ultra-compact mini-truck with a cab-over design and large (well, for its dimensions!) load bed will, Suzuki SA’s hoping for the first bakkie it’s ever sold, attract small businesses which need a light, user-friendly workhorse with exceptional load capacity.
And, particularly, inexpensive running costs with a three-year or 100 000km warranty.

The Super Carry first appeared in Japan way back in 1961 under the Suzulight brand. Since then it’s become a popular – a legend, even! – in not only Japan but also many other countries – now including South Africa in its 11th generation.
It can handle three-quarters the load of a conventional one-tonner in a load bay 2.18m long and 1.49m wide and has an almost 18cm ground clearance to help handle some of our less-the-optimum roads.
Its turning circle is only 8.6m and under the bonnet is a 54kW/101Nm (6000/3000rpm), four-cylinder, multipoint fuel-injected, engine ahead of a five-speed transmission carrying drive to the rear wheels – just like any self-respecting bakkie.

“The bakkie,” Suzuki SA says, “has the ride comfort of independent front suspension using Macpherson struts and coil springs and the rear robustness and load-carrying capacity of a rigid axle and leaf springs.
The cab-over design helps the Super Carry to a 3.8m overall length, is 1.56m wide overall and a canopy is available.

Charl Grobler, product planning and sales manager at Suzuki Auto SA, told The Corner in a media release: “We’re delighted to introduce the Super Carry to the SA market. Cost-efficiency, affordability and value-for-money are vital for small businesses and entrepreneurs seeking an efficient, versatile and robust utility vehicle.
“The Super Carry has tremendous potential here.”
The bakkie is assembled in India for the SA market and it recommended retail price is only R129 900 – including the three-year or 100 000km warranty.
