Isuzu SA has added a “special value” model to its bakkie range – a KB X-Rider based on the 250 HO Hi-Rider 4×2 in extended and double cab body styles.

The new model should be easy to recognise on the road with its black diamond-cut 18″ alloy rims with 255/60 all-terain tyres and black tubular side steps but, Isuzu SA says, “some less obvious features mark this special kind of workhorse”.

There’s also an uprated towball with a 2.1-tonne braked trailer capacity, diode daytime running lights and remote keyless entry. Spot one parked, and you’ll find leather upholstery with ‘X-Rider’ stitched into the front head restraints, a leather-trimmed steering wheel with “a full array” of satellite controls with red stitching and the Isuzu badge.

There’s also red stitching on the gear-shifter and seats, shiny black inserts on the doors (with a bold red ‘X’ motif), aircon vents, audio system and the gearshift console.

Brian Olson, GM SA’s VP for vehicle sales, service and marketing, told The Corner in a media release: “Our aim with the X-Rider is to offer real value and individuality in a brand well known for toughness, reliability and comfort. The X-Rider follows the success of previous special edition such as the Midnite and Serengeti.

“The X-Rider continues the tradition but at a cheaper price providing added exclusivity and exceptional value for money.”

Each X-Rider will have the 2015, 100kW/320Nm, version of Isuzu’s 2.5-litre common-rail, direct-injection, turbodiesel engine and the new bakkie is already in GM/Isuzu showrooms nationwide.

Three colours will be available – white, silver or red but there’s no indication of a4x4 model as usually befits an ‘X’ model in the bakkie world.

The X-Rider is offered in a trio of classy colours – Summit White, Switchblade Silver or Maranello Red – and the full array of changes applicable to the exterior include:
