- 180kW two-litre bi-turbo tops Tiguan line-up
- Only with SEL and R-Line features
- Engine range ‘now complete’ says VW

VW Europe will have its most potent Tiguan SUV yet for order (in the UK, at least) later in October (2016), topping even the Golf GTI for performance.
The 180kW bi-turbo diesel, badged BiTDI, has 40kW more on tap than the previously most-powerful model in the Tiguan range, the 2.0 TSI now history in the preceding generation of the car.

The engine, VW says, is similar to that fitted to the Passat and Passat Alltrack with a high-performance cylinder-head and two-stage turbo Injection making 2500 bar and the package drives all four wheels to a startling 230km/h – yet is (relatively!) slow to 100km/h – 6.5sec, where five has become the new benchmark.
AWD IN PACKAGE
As well as the bi-turbo diesel, three petrol engines are also now open (again, in the UK). The 2.0 TSI 135kW available with a six-speed manual or seven-speed DSG transmission but also standard with 4Motion AWD. It promises 206km/h and 0-100 in 7.7sec.
“The Tiguan SEL,” VW says, “packs a technological punch with standard features that include satnav, displayed on a 20cm colour touch-screen, adaptive cruise-control, and a 31cm high-res TFT screen instead of conventional instrumentation and configurable even to the point of also showing the satnav display.

In addition to the above, the Tiguan R-Line adds a roof-top spoiler, rear diffuser and a front air intake to highlight the kerb appeal of the car. 20″ ‘Suzuka’ alloy wheels rims and the bumper design are also reserved for the R-Line.
R-Line sill protectors and mats feature with special cloth upholstery, stainless-steel pedals and black headlining.

The addition of the two engine options in Tiguan completes the model’s seven-strong range.
*VW SA has no plans to introduce the car in South Africa.
