LOS ANGELES, California – Mazda Motor Corporation today (Nov 16 2016) unveiled its all-new Mazda CX-5 crossover SUV ahead of the Los Angeles auto show.
The fully re-designed model, Mazda says, “refines every element of the brand’s design and technology to offer new dimensions of driving pleasure”. It will be launched in Japan in February 2017 and reach southern Africa mid-2017.
The cars’ branding will read “an SUV all customers will enjoy” and Mazda says it will have an extra driving dimension of “driving pleasure that not only the driver but everybody in the car can enjoy”.

The model is said to have been engineered “in line with human sensibilities to deliver responsive performance that will conform to the driver’s expectations. The Corner says fine, but there’s a limit on how much you can do to make one small budget SUV differ from its competitors.
Kia’s Sportage led the way, stylistically, some years ago and has just launched its latest “small SUV” to rave reviews. We wish the Mazda well…

Mazda also says the car “prioritises passenger comfort (which automaker doesn’t? – Ed) with a quiet cabin and pleasant ride feel and adopts G-Vectoring Control, the first SkyActiv-Vehicle Dynamics vehicle motion control technologies.#

The car’s exterior is described as “both bold and sensual”. The cabin “crafted to give occupants a pleasant feeling”.
The power-train range will include two- and 2.5-litre petrol and 2.2-litre diesel engines.
The original CX-5 was launched in 2012 (with a facelift about which our editor wrote in April 2015) and, Mazda says, has since then grown into a core model not only sold in more than 120 countries but also generating about 25% of Mazda’s global sales’

“It has,” the automaker claims, “won about 90 awards worldwide – one of them the 2012-13 Japanese Car of the Year title
The cars will be on display at the Los Angeles auto show from November 18-27.
