- New two-litre, 132kW, ‘what buyers want’
- First Xtronic CVT with AWD on X-Trail
- Six-speed AWD, Xtronic 2X4 also on offer
LONDON, England – Nissan has launched a new, more powerful and larger-capacity diesel engine for its flagship X-Trail crossover.
First deliveries in the UK are expected in early 2017.
The new engine has an output of 132kW / 380Nm; Nissan describes it as “a significant step-up in power from the existing 1.6-litre, 97kW, diesel, and clearly meets a need for a more-powerful power train”.
Also new to the range Nissan’s Xtronic auto gearbox with all-wheel drive which, says Nissan, added to the current option of six-speed manual and front-wheel drive this will further broaden Nissan’s presence in the large SUV sector and enhance the appeal of the much-loved X-Trail”.
There’s also a choice of five or seven seats, each with “excellent” luggage space, clever storage solutions “and enough towing capacity to meet customers’ needs”.
Guillaume Cartier, a Nissan Europe executive, told The Corner in a media release: “The new flagship Nissan X-Trail is a crossover focused on delivering what people need. It’s a significant enhancement to the already strong X-Trail range, especially with the AWD linked to an autoc transmission for the first time.
“It’s also a compelling upgrade to our already successful 1.6 diesel.”
The automaker expressed a belief that the bigger diesel would mean “a refined and comfortable driving experience, ideal for longer distances”.
The engine meets Euro 6 emissions standards and three versions are available in the UK. Each claims to be capable of about 5.7 litres/100km.

Also available is a 19cm Nissan Connect touch-screen infotainment system with digital radio, Bluetooth connectivity and audio streaming.
