- Merc-AMG’s most intelligent sport sedan
- Setting benchmarks for tech innovation
- 450kW – and 50-year-old engine tech

AFFALTERBACH, Germany – The Mercedes-AMG is turning the most intelligent executive saloon into the most powerful E-Class yet in the shape of the next generation of the E 63 4Matic+ and E 63 S 4Matic+.
The cars are also, AMG says, setting market benchmarks with innovative technologies.
The “intelligent” drive strategy, it adds, raises the limits of the performance sedan’s vehicle dynamics to a new level, including superior acceleration.

The four‑litre twin-turbo V8 generates up to 450kW, making it the most powerful Mercedes-AMG has yet installed in an E-Class. And it has a cylinder deactivation system (hey, it’s become the latest automotive fashion, despite being around for 50 years, including production models, and Merc is only now caching up!) as standard.
Accleration to 100km/h (all cylinders pumping, of course!) is listed as 3.4 seconds, claimed to be the best in class. The Corner asks why, on today’s clogged global highways with soaring road-death tolls, this continues to be a selling point.

As an example of automotive engineering (now THAT’s a selling point for you dinosaurs of advertising out there), however, it’s brilliant.
The cars introduce a number of developments that redefine the performance saloon. As AMG says: “Innovative powertrain engineering and maximum performance are combined with distinctive design, exclusive equipment, and the latest infotainment features for comprehensive, connected multimedia applications.”

Tobias Moers, board chairman of Mercedes-AMG, told The Corner in a media release: “The new E63’s are the biggest step forward we’ve yet taken from one generation to the next.
“Vehicle dynamics were especially important so, from the start of development, we opted for fully-variable all-wheel drive which with the V8 twin-turbo power.”

Top speed is limlted to 250km/h, but that can soon be raised to 300km/h through the nine-speed multi-clutch Speedshift transmission.
Both models have, AMG says, a rigid body as a foundation for maximum vehicle dynamics, comfortable handling even on poor roads, and “a feeling of solid quality”.
The “expressive” exterior design includes a new radiator grille and coupé-style bonnet.
Last words from AMG: “The next generation of the E63 offers a completely new level of sportiness and comfort on long journeys.”
Until next time…
