WOODCLFF LAKE, New Jersey – BMW Motorrad USA has at last announced the US price for the “much-anticipated” K1600 B, the BMW bagger developed for the American biking market.
Sales target? “American riders who love the great open American roads,” BMW US says. The price? Five bucks short of $20 000 – or the equivalent of about R252 000.
The giant bike is based on technology from the six-cylinder BMW tourers the K1600 GT and GTL, but the K1600 B, its maker says, “has a spectacular backward-sloping linear design with a specifically engineered rear section to reflect the characteristics of a grand American tourer”.
“This not only makes the Bagger appear low-lying and slender,” BMW Motorrad says, “but also, thanks to the new rear frame, significantly reduces the height of the passenger seat.

As with the K1600 GT/GTL, the Bagger’s 1649cc in-line six-cylinder engine produces 120kW and comes standard with three riding modes (Rain, Road, Dynamic), traction control, cornering-optimised ABS, heatable seats and handgrips, power adjustable windshield, cruise control, multifunction display with trip data computer, and electronic suspension adjustment with “Road” and “Cruise” damping modes.
Reverse gear, hill-start assistance, adaptive headlight and footboards are extra-cost options.
Like other Motorrad products, the K1600 B price list includes option packages:
⦁ Safety package: Adaptive headlight, tire pressure monitor (TPM), and Hill Start Control
⦁ Comfort package: Central locking, anti-theft alarm, keyless start and diode auxiliary lights
⦁ Touring Package: Reverse gear, GPS preparation and audio system with radio, Sirius XM, and Bluetooth.
