Mazda’s all-new CX-5 debuts in South Africa

JOHANNESBURG, Gauteng – Five years down the line since its launch in 2012 comes a fresh version of Mazda’s CX-5 with a new range of vehicles featuring – a “core model” sold in more than 120 countries.

Mazda says it accounts for about 25% of its global sales volume; indeed, the outgoing CX-5 was selling around 350 a month.

Mazda claims the 2017 model is “fully redesigned” and all new, “a crossover SUV that refines every element of Mazda’s design and technology that raises the bar for fuel efficiency, driving fun, looks and safety”.

Feature updates include diode head and front fog lights, auto headlight levelling, a new design of 17″ alloy wheel rims, rear ventilation, rear centre-armrest USB and auto locking (Active petrol model).


19″ alloy rims leather seats, eight-way power-adjustable lumbar support for the driver and auto-folding mirrors have been added to the Dynamic while the Individual derivative gets a 10-speaker Bose audio system, head-up windscreen data display, electric tail door, auto braking at city speeds and dopey-driver detection.

The car is described by its maker as having “a solidly sporty, yet refined, stance, a lower roof, sleeker sides and minimalist styling” and a choice of three engines: SkyActiv 2.0 and 2.5 petrol and a SkyActiv 2.2 diesel, some units with an auto gearbox.


The 2017 Mazda CX-5 model range will be available from dealers from June 1 with a three-year unlimited distance service plan, a three-year warranty, three years of roadside assistance, and a five-year ‘no rust-through’ warranty.
