  • Power-operated sliding fabric roof
  • Black X still marks the Toyota nose

TOTOTA SA HAS introduced yet another version of its Aygo X-Cite to a model line-up which already includes the Aygo and Aygo X- Play Black and, yes, it’s a semi-convertible with a power-operated, full-length, canvas roof.

It’s described as “an affordable, open-top compact hatch” finished in black and with the now well-known black X dominating the nose.

The full-length retractable roof ensures that even rear passengers get a “wind-in-the-hair” experience.

“Buyers of small city cars,” Toyota says, “have come to expect more from their vehicles; stylish design, great fuel-efficiency and a number of standard ‘features’ – all Aygo models deliver with this total package.” Or simply, in Toyota’s words:

  • Exciting exterior design
  • Vibrant interior
  • High specification level, including touchscreen audio
  • Competitive pricing

The soft-top’s one-litre VVT-i petrol engine has already proved itself in other Aygo models wih its 51kW/95Nm that claims a sub-15sec 0-100km/h sprint and 4.4 litres/100km combined fuel-consumption, helped by a five-speed manual transmission driving the front wheels.

Also standard are stability control, diode daytime runnng lights, 15″ alloy wheel rims, front, right and curtain crash bags and a stubby radio antena. All X-Cite models are delivered with a three-year or 100 000km warranty; a service plan is optional.

The X-Cite is priced at R189 500, the Aygo X-Play Black and Aygo at R161 500 and R159 100  respectively.
