- Fiat 500X Urban and Cross get new look and tech
- Green and Bronze available for whole 2018 range
- More personalisation with equipment packs
MILAN, Italy – Fiat’s 500X has had a facelift, been issued with new technology, and its sales staff given new strategies “to keep them among the top-five best-sellers across Europe”. And, presumably, here in South Africa.
The main tech addition is a “sophisticated” Uconnect HD Live system with a highres 19cm touchscreen across the range from Pop Star units up. The system offers Apple CarPlay but is also compatible with Android Auto.
For the first time, ‘Donatello’ bronze and ‘Alpi Matte’ green – previously only available on S-Design units – will be available across the range and the new communication strategy will employ new commercial names to emphasise, Fiat says, “the two different souls” of the Fiat 500X: the city personality called Urban Look and the bolder crossover called Cross Look on the Cross and City Cross units.
These changes, the automaker explains, are are in step with those across the wider 500 family and first seen on the new 500L.
Finally, the range of personalisation has been extended with the launch of specific packs which bring together the accessories most suited to different customer needs “and emphasise the style, connectivity, comfort and safety of the Fiat 500X for 2018”. Model Year 2018.
Fiat says this move will guarantee considerable savings compared to buying the accessories one by one.
Uconnect 7″ HD Live uses a hands-free Bluetooth interface to stream audio, handle text-message reading, and allow voice recognition. The cars will also have AUX and USB sockets for iPod integration as well as controls on the steering wheel.
Rear camera and new TomTom 3D satnav are available at extra cost.
Buyers will also be able to stay in touch by downloading free music streaming with Deezer and TuneIn, Reuters news, and stay in touch with friends through Facebook Check-in and Twitter.
