LONDON, England – Ferrari chairman Sergio Marchionne has saluted his Formula 1 team’s progress with the belief that the 2017 season “is not lost” despite a string of setbacks.
Sebastian Vettel, championship leader Lewis Hamilton’s main title rival, is 59 points behind the latter and was a retiree from the October 2017 Japanese GP Prix thanks to a broken spark plug.
Ferrari is also 145 points behind reigning champion Mercedes on the Constructors’ table with four races left. Hamilton could take both titles in Austin, Texas, on October 22.
Ferrari also had a bad time in Malaysia and Singapore on which tracks, respectively, Vettel had an engine problem and retired and crashed into team mate Kimi Raikkonen.
