ARESE, Italy – Formula E champion Charles Leclerc will move up to Formula 1 with Alfa Romeo-backed Sauber for the 2018 season.
Marcus Ericcson will remain on the drivers’ list despite scoring zero points through 2017.
The announcement, according to Reuters, was made by Fiat Chrysler’s chief executive Sergio Marchionne on Saturday (Dec 2 2017) at a presentation of Alfa Romeo’s new partnership with the Swiss team at the Italian brand’s museum near Milan.
That deal, marking the return of Alfa Romeo name to F1 (though it does own Ferrari) after a more than 30-year absence was announced a week earlier.
