JOHANNESBURG, Gauteng – Hyundai has rejuvenated its Grand i10 range in South Africa with new features and a new entry model to give the entry model fresh appeal since the basic i10 was discontinued.

Stanley Anderson, Hyundai Automotive SA’s sales and operations director, told The Corner in a media communication: ”The specification change added an entry derivative, the  one-litre Motion. The result is a hatchback with a variety of derivatives that offers exceptional value.”

“There’s a car for the young first-time buyer, for a student on a budget, as a second family car with generous luxury features, for someone who wants to downscale later in life.”

”The Grand i10,” Hyundai says, ”is remarkably spacious yet small in overall dimensions. It’s filled with the standard features that made it our top seller.”

AUTOS AND MANUALS

The revised line-up lists six derivatives: three with a new one-litre, three-cylinder, 48kW / 94Nm engine, three with a 1250cc, four-cylinder capable of 64kW / 120Nm.

The one-litre derivatives are the Grand i10 Motion (five-speed manual), Grand i10 Motion (four-speed auto), and Grand i10 Fluid with a five-speed auto.

The 1250cc engine appears in the flagship Grand i10 Glide (five-speed manual) and its sister Grand i10 Fluid (five-speed manual) and Grand i10 Fluid (four-speed auto).

Influenced by Hyundai Motor Company’s design philosophy, “fluidic sculpture”, the Grand i10 features sleek and substantial lines that makes the hatchback look dynamic and somewhat larger than its actual dimensions.

The body shell includes 256 litres of trunk capacity that rises to 1202 litres with the rear seats folded and, Hyundai says, ”new levels” of craftsmanship, comfort and safety in the cabin usually found only higher market segments.

RUNNING LIGHTS, TOO

Nice touches are colour-coded door releases and external mirrors, the latter with built-in turn indicators, and the alloy wheel rims on the Fluid and Glide units. Rear combination lights and a spoiler accentuate the back of the cars.

The Grand i10 1.25 Glide adds diode daytime running lights.

Cabin styling and trim differ from black cloth for the Motion and Fluid derivatives to black leather and red cloth for the Grand i10 Glide. The Glide also has red inserts on the instrument and door panels and a centre console.

The flagship Glide adds parking radar.

…AND THE FUEL BURN

The Grand i10’s 1,25-litre engine belongs to Hyundai Motor’s popular Kappa engine family and has advanced technical features that raise power and torque and enhance smoothness and driveability.

Fuel consumption ranges (depending on driving style) from 5.4 to 6.9 litres/100km for the various models. (Prices below the image.)
