- New luxury challengers in top SUV market

PORT ELIZABETH, South Africa – Isuzu Motors SA, best known for its rugged bakkies, is to enter the whole sub-Sahara African market with a model branded mu-X in the second half of 2018.
The model line-up, specification and prices will be announced closer to the launch.
Dominic Rimmer, Isuzu SA’s executive for technical services, told The Corner the SUV would be in a new SUV segment for Isuzu,; previously there were the Trooper and Frontier in 1992 and 1998.
“This product, which has already found favour with buyers around the world, will extend the Isuzu product range as a sophisticated SUV for work and leisure – we’d like to keep bakkie and SUV owners in the Isuzu family.”
The Isuzu mu-X was introduced in the Thai market in 2013 but is now also sold in Australia and the Philippine Islands where it is the market leader.
Rimmer added: “We”re excited about the addition of the mu-X into the Isuzu portfolio. It’s an SUV originating from a strong brand that is trusted and known for its reliability by South Africans.”
This SUV, Isuza says, will assume the brand’s rich DNA earned from decades of experience in diesel engine technology. It will have Isuzu’s proven three-litre engine and be packed with active safety features.
Car-like handling with exceptional ride comfort, the company says, will be supported by a five-link rear suspension. Seven seats with ample legroom ”promise a comfortable ride for the family, on the road or off the beaten track”.
