Infiniti going to China: Five models to be built there

BEIJING, China – The Infiniti auto brand has announced that it will assemble five new / replacement vehicles in China over the next five years, starting with a replacment QX50 SUV.

The announcement, handily, comes just before the opening of the 2018 Beijing International auto show.

Roland Krueger, chairman and global president of Infiniti Motor, told The Corner in an international media release: “We plan to localise five new vehicles in China, tripling sales in our fastest growth market.”


He added: ”We anticipate that, by 2025, more than half of global new Infiniti sales will be electric. Infiniti is pursuing localisation in China with Dongfeng Motors to expand our network and introduce technology such as a variable a compression engine and vehicle electrification.

”We will continue to strive to make Infiniti the top premium challenger brand in the market.”

The Beijing auto show will be the first opportunity for Infiniti to show off its all-new QX50 premium SUV in Asia, with local production expected soon. These will be sold only in China from later in 2018.

Also making its Asian debut will be a ”stylish and innovative” Q Inspiration concept car, said to represent the  next step in Infiniti design; it’s the first manifestation of Infiniti’s new shape for sedans and the start an era of battery power.

Infiniti sold a record 48 408 vehicles in China in 2017 – 16% more than in 2016.
