PORT ELIZABETH, Eastern Cape – Coming soon from Isuzu in the second half of 2018… the brand’s new mu-X sport utility vehicle into the South African and Sub-Saharan Africa markets in the second half of 2018.
The strangely-branded wagon is a new entry into the SUV segment, following the long established Trooper and Frontier in 1992 and 1998.
Dominic Rimmer, a technical services executive with Isuzu, told The Corner in a media release: “This great product has found favour with buyers around the world and will extend the Isuzu product range with an option that between the rugged and capable Isuzu pick-up and a sophisticated SUV for both work and leisure.”

The Isuzu mu-X (it stands for Multi Utility Crossover), first introduced in Thailand but now also sold in Australia and the Philippines, will be assembled in Thailand (correcting our first information that it was to be assembled in India).

Rimmer added: “We are excited about the addition of the mu-X into the Isuzu portfolio, an SUV originating from a strong brand that is trusted and known for reliability by South Africans.”
The mu-X is powered by Isuzu’s proven three-litre diesel engine, claims ”car-like” handling and an ”exceptional ride” and is ”packed with active safety features”. It’s a seven seater for on- or off-road driving.
Rimmer said the Isuzu mu-X model line-up, specification and pricing would be announced closer to launch.
