- Coming to time – new Nissan baby on way
- 66kW turbo engine – and new from tyres up
- Fifth generation of popular small car
ROSSLYN, Gauteng – Nissan SA says it plans to ”revolutionise” the small-car market with the arrival of a surprise baby – the 66kW Nissan Micra which, its maker says, ”is new from the ground up”.
A media release released on May 10 2018 by the brand’s African operation had this to say: ”It’s a game-changer in this segment. Locals in the new-car market right now will be sorry if they become impatient and opt for something mundane before the Micra’s launched in South Africa.”
It will, Nissan adds, be the fifth generation Micra and a departure from typical hatchbacks. Nissan Africa’s marketing director Xavier Gobille told The Corner: ”Everything about the new Micra has changed except the name. We’re very excited about it.”
‘SCULPTED BODY, STRONG LINES’
Well, it’s powered by a 66kW turbocharged engine as the top model in the South African Micra range -the alternative being the Micra Active that was launched in 2017.
The newer car is described as ”having a sculpted body with strong character lines and a cabin that puts the customer at the heart of the experience”.
Specification includes an infotainment system with Apple CarPlay, comprehensive crash-protection features in the form of six crash bags, anti-lock brakes, and electronic brake-pressure distribution.
More details, including price, will be released closer to the June event but we can tell you it will be delivered with a three-year or 90 000km service plan, a six-year or 150 000km warranty, and roadside assistance around the clock.
