Another factor in Opel X saga: it’s the Grandland X

RüSSELSHEIM, Germany – This is where a sporty character meets the spirit of adventure: modern, dynamic lines, a cool off-road look and the elevated seating position with good all-round visibility typical of an SUV.

This is the new Opel Grandland X – with a host of top technologies on board and plenty of space for up to five adventurous passengers, their luggage and sport equipment. These qualities make the Opel a new contender in the booming SUV segment.

In the compact class alone, Opel says, the SUV C share has increased from seven percent in 2010 to 10 percent today.

The 4.48m Grandland X’s athletic look boasts crisp exterior dimensions with its taut muscles and short overhangs. And, with optional two-tone finish, the compact SUV shows its very own style.

ALL-ROUND CAMERAS

The vehicle had its world premiere at the September 2017 Frankfurt auto show.

Ideally equipped and well positioned, the Grandland X comes to market in as the third member of the Opel X family; the others are the Crossland X and Opel Mokka X.

The car’s assistance ”portfolio” includes parking assistance, a 360° set of external cameras, heatable steering-wheel, front and rear seat-heating, and a tail door that opens with a foot flip under the rear bumper.

Connectivity is standard and the cars have cornering lights and self-dipping, auto-levelling, headlights.

It’s not a small car: 4.48m long, 185m wide and 1.64m tall. millimeters tall. Opel says it has wise stance, protective plastic cladding along the lower doors, and a two-tone paint job (black roof), and there’s an underbody protection plate front and rear for those tough off-road moments.

Opel’s vice-president for design, Mark Adams, told The Corner in a media release: “The Grandland X is a modern SUV with exceptional presence and a bold design that looks compact – yet sporty and muscular.

”We’ve created an SUV that blends sporty with elegant – I think it’s an absolute eye-catcher in its segment.”

Let’s move inside… the instrument panel and centre stack/touchscreen align to the driver with three horizontal rows of controls for infotainment, airconl and chassis functions. Passengers have elevated seating.

SPACE FOR 5, HEATABLE SEATS

The 2.70m wheelbase, Opel says, give plenty space for five people and the luggage bay can takefrom 514 to a maximum of 1652 litres depending on how the seats are configurated.

The Grandland X will be launched with a turbocharged 1.6-litre petrol engine capable of 121kW / 240Nm and driving through a six-speed autobox. There will be three levels of trim. (Prices beneath the bonus pictures.)
