- Lindenberg operation leading the way
- Limited number coming of ‘King of Bakkies’
- Upgraded suspension for trail, tar, or track
CAPE TOWN, South Africa – South African big-truck fans at last have another serious on- and off-road, high-performance, muscle bakkie ready for sale in their home country
It’s the all-new 2019 Shelby F-150 equipped with right-hand drive.
Shelby SA CEO (and well-known motorsportsman) Peter Lindenberg confirmed to The Corner: “Were delighted to confirm that the order book is open for a limited number of 565’kW Shelby F150 bakkies to satisfy the ultimate needs of South African bakkie owners.”
It’s based on the Ford F150 – ”the most popular vehicle on the face of the earth” – and will be available in standard 565kW form or in exclusive Baja trim complete with a full Fox Suspension system. It has the all new 3.5-litre V6 twin-turbo engine and will be converted to RHD at Hi-tech Automotive, Shelby’s approved F150 upgrade facility.
RARE HISTORIC OPPORTUNITY
Lindenberg added: “This Shelby truck has room for everyone and everything to make you feel like the King of the World behind the wheel while it delivers all the rugged capability for an outdoor adventure and every bit of the sophistication you want for a night on the town.
“The Shelby F150 is a rare opportunity to acquire a bit of real bakkie history, but we urge prospective buyers to contact Shelby SA as soon as possible to avoid disappointment.
“We will only assemble a limited number of what’s clearly set to become South Africa’s King of Bakkies,” Lindenberg concluded. “Only 500 Shelby F150s will be built around the world and each will be entered into the Shelby American Registry.”
The bakkie comes with an aluminium performance heat-exchanger and an upgraded billet throttle body; upgraded high-performance fuel-injectors and a Shelby-tuned Borla Performance Exhaust system finished with two coal-black ceramic tips.
An enhanced Ford Racing Blue powder-coated blower and open performance air intake has an over-sized carbon-fibre air intake tube with a high-flow filter under its dual-intake Shelby Ram Air Super Snake hood.
Front vents will help with engine cooling.
The bakkie is based on Ford’s fully-loaded, US-spec, F150 Lariat Luxury but adds 20” Shelby engraved alloy wheel rims shod with BF-Goodrich KO 235/12.50R20 all-terrain tyres complete with speed- and tyre-sensor calibration.
The suspension, by BDS, adds rear performance traction bars, the Baja option adds an exclusive optional Shelby-engineered Fox Shock System with Raptor-style 2.5” Fox Aluminium Reservoir shock-absorbers that, Shelby says, can be tuned from luxury ride to hard-core off-road or track.
How to identify? Well, a garden-variety F150 is hard to miss, but the Shelby Snake inserrt and honeycomb racing grille over a body-colour custom front bumper, fender flares, and vents.
Full-body Shelby rally stripes run the length of the body,
Shelby rocker-panel graphics, bonnet, tailgate and bed branding, a ‘Supercharged’ logo on the air intakes and a Shelby Registry engine plaque howl the big Ford’s identity.
TWO-TONE LEATHER-CLAD SEATS
There can also be custom-painted rear-bumper cladding, a body-colour solid loadbed cover and Shelby bedliner, and black powder-coated step bars.
The cabin has two-tone leather upholstery with Shelby Snake embroidered head restraints and console lid, as well as a carbon-fibre cabin-trim package and deep-tinted windows,
Shelby mats and a Shelby serial number plaque complete the cabin.
Lindenberg says orders are open only through Shelby SA, Price depends on customer specification but can be expected to pay from around R2.5-million to R3-million all-in for the top-of-the-range Baja Raptor with full Shelby conversion and the Fox suspension.
The Shelby F150 will be delivered with a three-year or 50 000km Shelby warranty. For more information go to www.shelbysa.com or email email@example.com .
