LONDON, England – A small group of UK Toyota Supra owners are among the first in the world to get close up and personal with the prototype next version of the iconic sport car.

The closed-doors event in southern England had all four generations of the car together with the new fifth-generation for the first time.

Toyota invited the Supra fans to an evening event with Tetsuya Tada, chief engineer of the new A90 Supra, who gave owners of all four previous generations an exclusive introduction to the camouflaged prototype.

The top secret, invite-only, event was at the 2018 Goodwood Festival of Speed.

Earlier that day Tada-san had given thousands of enthusiasts an early taste of the vehicle’s dynamic performance by driving up the famous Goodwood Hill, though the car was immediately whisked away to another location for an exclusive static showing.

50 immaculate Supra models gleaned from all four generations were invited to attend the A90 Supra’s arrival. Most guests – each a Supra owner – arrived in fourth-generation models, many of them illustrating the enduring popularity and tuning potential of the iconic 2JZ straight-six engine.

Also in attendance were eight third-generation models (original and face-lifted), four angular second-generation models, and one first-gen unit – one of only two examples of the Celica Supra known to exist in the UK.

Tada-san drove the A90 into the building, parked it on a revolving stand, then introduced the culmination of six years’ development.

Tada-san was reported as ”eager to mingle with the guests and chat about the A90. He was equally eager to hear from existing owners about their Supra.

Commenting on the weekend, Tada-san beamed: “I’m so happy we’ve made it to this point. I’ve at last been able to reveal the car to the UK – and to drive it up the Goodwood Hill was really exciting.”

Toyota expects the Supra 5 to reach showrooms in the first half of 2019.
