LONDON, England – Red Bull driver Daniel Ricciardo could be whacked with a grid penalty at the start of the 2018 Italian F1 GP thanks to an engine change.
He told Reuters: “I’ve done some of my best overtaking here and plan to do more this weekend as its likely I’ll have engine penalties.”
Ricciardo was fourth after a stirring drive at Monza in 2017, He’d qualified third but engine and gearbox penalties sent him to Box 16th. His fightback earned him the fastest lap of the race and he was named Driver of the Day.
The Reuters report explained that drivers can be penalised for exceeding a season’s engine allocation – which applies this year as Red Bull accepted an offered upgrade from Renault.
The upbeat Aussie added at the media conference: “It won’t be boring if I have to do the same again this year!”
