HANNOVER, Germany – Nissan has unveiled two vehicles at the Hannover auto show – a Navara Dark Sky concept and a Nissan Navara N-Guard.

Each claims to highlight the brand’s bakkies versatility; the load-carriers have, Nissan says, seen sales grow by 300% through three years. ”Through these conversions,” Nissan says, ”we’ve been able to provide commercial customers with solutions tailored to business needs.”

With its latest creation, the brand is looking to the stars…

The Nissan Navara Dark Sky concept was developed in Britain in collaboration with the European Space Agency. It has an advanced version of Nissan’s ProPilot driving assistance technology and is intended to highlight how the bakkie can power and tow a mobile astronomy laboratory.

…THEN THERE’S N-GUARD

Which is how come the bakkie got its moniker: the concept can haul an ultra-high performance PlaneWave telescope on a special trailer. The Navara’s can tow the telescope laboratory to remote, off-road, “dark sky” locations – the quotes defining places where the best skygazing atmospheric conditions exist for stargazing.

Also having its auto show debut in Hannover is the Nissan Navara N-Guard, a tough and stylish special version now available to the public. It has a number of exterior and interior design upgrades to, the automaker says, ”extend the Navara’s appeal to those who want a superior bakkie for off-road adventures”.

‘MOST CAPABLE NAVARA YET’

Inspired by the Nissan Navara EnGuard concept unveiled at the Hannover show in 2016, the Navara N-Guard is available with an off-road conversion pack: greater  ground-clearance, belly protection and an (optional) snorkel.

Nissan says it is ”the most capable Navara yet offered to customers in Europe”.

Ashwani Gupta, of Nissan’s light commercial unit, told The Corner: “The bakkies are the  embodiment of Nissan’s dedication to excellent conversions. Their versatility of each vehicle allows us to support any business need.”

Other key Nissan light commercials at Hannover ’18 include versions of the NV200, NV300 and NV400 vans and the all-electric e-NV200 van. ”High demand,” NIssan says, ”has led to 7000 upgraded e-NV200 orders since launch in January 2018, way up on the same period a year earlier”.
