DURBAN, South Africa – Social media and online motoring sites were buzzing this week after pictures circulated of Hyundai i30 N models spotted in Durban’s harbour – but then hopes of Hyundai fans were dashed.
The high-performance units were were not destined for a local launch but instead were in transit to Australia.
The i30 N, launched in 2017 at the Frankfurt autto show, were the first in a new line of sporty road cars being launched under the Hyundai N sub-brand. And yes, they already have a lot of street cred.
Stanley Anderson, sales and operations director of Hyundai Automotive SA, explained: “We took note of the reports about the cars in Durban harbour but they were not imported by Hyundai SA. They’re in transit to Australia.
“We don’t have definite plans to launch the i30 N in South Africa but the door is always open should circumstances prove right for such a venture. We’re aware that – based on comments and reactions on social and local online media – quite an appetite exists for the launch of this performance car that was developed under the leadership of Albert Biermann at the Hyundai Motor Group.
”Were watching the game.”
