Marquez pips Rossi for pole in first Thai MotoGP

BANGKOK, Thailand – MotoGP championship leader Marc Marquez earned his 50th pole start today (Oct 6) ahead of what will be the first Thailand MotoGP on Sunday.

Valentino Rossi was second – but all the top 10 (see below) were in the 1min30 bracket.

Honda’s Marquez, already a four-times MotoGP champion, scored his place with a lap of 1min30.088, 0.011sec faster than the Yamaha veteran.

Ducati pilot Andrea Dovizioso was third, followed by Yamaha’s Maverick Vinales fourth.

Marquez (on 246) is 72 points clear in the 2018 championship from Dovizioso, pretty commanding with only five races left for the year.

It was a bad weekend for Ducati’s Jorge Lorenzo, fourth in the championship. He fell during Friday’s second practice, incurring a wrist injury and his withdrawal from the meeting.
