- Japanese authority lauds Mitsu’s Cross
- ‘Attention to detail’ praised by judges
- Mitsubishi SA taking orders already
TOKYO, Japan – Mitsubishi Motors’ Eclipse Cross, launched in right-hand drive in the UK in January 2018, has been awarded a Good Design accolade by the Japan Institute of Design Promotion.
The vehicles are expected to arrive for the South African market in early 2019.
The award committee rated highly the car’s wedge design: “The profile is very striking. The character line that cuts sharply into the sides is distinctive, and one sees the attention to detail in the styling that locates the door releases on this line to create a unified look.
‘’We were also impressed by how the design uses different cross-sections for the front and rear roof edges to create a coupe-like silhouette, yet providing the cabin space and comfort required of a sport utility vehicle.”
Other distinguishing features which influenced the judges were ‘’a design that motivates the driver to explore and enjoy new adventures’’, ‘’all-wheel control technology that elevates the driving experience’’; and ‘’connectivity that inspires new fun adventures’’.
Nic Campbell, Mitsubishi Motors SA’s general manager, told The Corner in a media communication celebrating the award: ‘’We’re eager to launch and welcome the Eclipse Cross to our product range in 2019. Our dealers are already accepting orders.’’
