- All-new Subaru Forester confirmed for South Africa
- Roomiest, most refined, Forester yet
- Safer with EyeSight driving assistance
- New X-Mode designed for deep mud
JOHANNESBURG, Gauteng – The all-new, fifth-generation, Subaru Forester SUV has, its maker says, the most space, best off-road capability, advanced safety and other features in its 22-year history.
The SUVs were launched at the 2018 New York International auto show and are expected very soon in South Africa.
The Forester, Subaru SA tells us, has been chosen by the US Highway Safety people as a ‘Top Safety Pick’ for 12 consecutive years (2007-2018) and have the highest possible ‘Superior’ rating for front crash prevention when equipped with EyeSight.
The new Forester is a re-design with new engineering, the automaker says. ”The 2019 Forester has been designed around Subaru’s ‘Global Platform’ and delivers major improvements in safety, ride, handling and comfort.
NEW MODEL, NEW ENGINE
”Every Forester trim level include seven crash bags to protect pelvis and torso and to absorb side-impact energy. They will all also all-wheel drive and be powered by a new version of the two-litre brand’s boxer engine – though with 80% of its parts redesigned parts – and with direct fuel-injection.”
The 115kW / 196Nm engine will spin a constantly-variable transmission equipped with a performance management system that can be set for “Intelligent” and “Sport” modes. “Intelligent” smooths accelerator input to conserve fuel, “Sport” to tune throttle response in favour of performance.
PRICES STILL TO COME
X mode will be included in the vehicles for the first time – a two-mode device intended to adjust the throttle when driving off-road… the driver just needs to steers.
Model range and prices will be announced when the SUVs are launched in December 2018.
