- New styling and new technology
- Revised exterior design
- Fully connected, integrated satnav
ATLANTA, Georgia – The newest version of the popular Porsche Macan sport utility vehicle will have its North American premiere during the 2018 Los Angeles auto show.
Prominent among the changes, the automaker tells us, the 2019 Macan will have a new three-dimensional diode light panel at the rear, diode headlights, and a revamped cabin though cornering lights are only available as an option.
The tail-lights, separate on earlier Macan models, now connect in similar fashion to other Porsche models, first seen on the 911 and now the Cayenne and Panamera.
In addition to the revised exterior design, customers in the US will be able to select a variety of new paint color options in shades of green metallic, silver metallic, blue or white
Starting with the 2019 model year, the Macan will have a larger (28cn) high-definition touchscreen with the latest version of Porsche Communication Management.
As in the Panamera and Cayenne, users can customise the interface by repositioning movable tiles and choosing their functions from a list of options.
Fully connected as standard, the new system includes online satnav, Porsche Connect Plus (with LTE phone module and SIMcard reader), a WLAN hotspot, and an array of Porsche Connect services.
LOOK OUT! TRAFFIC JAM
Up-to-date satnav data is available thorough a cloud connection; Apple CarPlay is an option.
The 2019 Macan also gains a traffic-jam warning system as a component of the optional adaptive cruise-control. When so equipped, the Macan can accelerate, brake, and keep itself within a marked lane at up to up to 60km/h.
The Porsche Connect and Porsche Car Connect apps allow the driver to communicate with the Macan via a smartphone and (new for 2019) has an Offroad Precision app to improve and even record off-road experiences.
The 2019 Macan will have a two-litre, four-cylinder, turbocharged petrol engine capable of 186kW / 316Nm. In combination with its seven-gear, dual-clutch, gearbox, the compact SUV can reach 100km/h in 6.3sec (6.1sec with launch control, part of an an optional Sport Chrono package which has been updated for the new models).
VARIOUS TYRE CHOICE
Potential top speed is 230km/h.
Porsche claims the Macan’s vehicle dynamics continue to be its core feature: ”The updated chassis increases comfort and makes the Macan even more enjoyable to drive. Typical for a sport car, the Macan comes with variously sized tyres to underscore the benefits of rear-biased Porsche traction control.”
The car has tyres with, Porsche says, ”improved performance characteristics to allow for improved lateral dynamics as compared to previous model years” – read ”they have excellent grip”.
Wheel-rim diameters range from 18” to optional 21” diameter and will be available in the Us with new designs.
An expanded range of options and assistance systems will be available with the new Macan – such as the GT Sport steering wheel standard in the Porsche 911. There’s a ”mode” / sport response button on the steering-wheel as part of the optional Sport Chrono package.
Porsche has extended the list of convenience options to include a heatable windscreen and an air ionizer that – together with the standard fine-particulate air-filter – improves the cabin’s air quality.
