‘Intelligent’ tyre monitors good for six years or 600 000km

PORT ELIZABETH, South Africa –  MAN Automotive SA has selected Continental’s Intelligent Tyres fitted with ContiPressureCheck for its premium range of EfficientLine trucks.

The deal will permit real-time monitoring of tyre performance, pressure and temperature so fleet managers and drivers will be able to reduce downtime and improve operating efficiency.

Continental Tyre SA’s Darren Voges told The Corner in a media release: “That our Intelligent Tyres, with ContiPressureCheck sensors installed, have been adopted by MAN is a clear signal that our monitoring system has been well-received by the original equipment market.

“ContiPressureCheck, when integrated with a fleet telematics provider, is a value-adding solution for managing tyres across a fleet.”

DRIVER AND DISPATCHER WARNED

The CPC pressure-sensor. two cm long and weighing less than 20g, goes inside the tyre to monitor its host’s pressure and temperature. The data becomes available to the driver on his instrument and the dispatcher’s computer… a deviation will alert both and possibly avoid downtime.

The monitors can be fitted-on when the original host – of any brand or model, truck, bus or bus – is worn beyond use and its battery can last for six years or 600 000km and monitor vehicles with as many as 24 wheels.
