- Double-cab S6 variant of its popular Pik Up
- Launched with first run-limited Karoo Edition
- Offers ‘performance, style and affordability’
JOHANNESBURG, South Africa – Mahindra SA is going local with the name of its latest limited-edition double-cab and the start of local production.
Meet the Mahindra Pik Up Karoo…
The bakkie, the automakers says, will not only celebrate a Mahindra milestone with extra accessories but also herald the introduction of the S6 specification in the double-cab range. By doing so, it’s enabled Mahindra to offer a 4×2 double cab at R300 000 and a 4×4 for R330 000.
Rajesh Gupta, Mahindra SA’s CEO, told The Corner in a media release: “The Pik Up has in recent years become one of Mahindra’s best sellers thanks to its rugged and reliable mechanicals and generous specification.
“Its introduction has amplified the bakkies’ best qualities and made them available to more buyers.”
The newbie has the same specification as the S6 single-cab, which includes front foglights, colour-coded bumpers, mirrors with side mouldings, remote central-locking, USB-enabled audio, anti-lock brakes with electronic pressure distribution, two crash bags, a differential lock, and power windows.
Hans Greyling, Mahindra SA’s sales boss, explained:”The S6 Pik Up Karoo Limited Edition has a towball, load-bed cover, nudge and roll bars, and Karoo decals. The windows have rain deflectors and the body is protected with wheel-arch mouldings – together more than R28 000 of additional value at no cost to buyers.”
The Karoo Edition is named for the popular locally-made and Orchid award-winning Mahindra tongue-in-cheek advideo in which an adventure-seeker goes to extremes to rescue a lost lamb.
The S6-spec has the S10’s 2179cc mHawk common-rail injection turbodiesel engine that’s can make 103kW at 3750rpm and 320Nm from 1500-2800rpm and spins a six-speed manual gearbox.
Given that it might go off-road, there’s 210mm ground clearance and a load rating of up to 1095kg.
Units will be delivered with a five-year or 90 000km service plan and four-year or 120 000km warranty. Service intervals, after the initial 10 000km lube service, will be 20 000km.
