Ready to trade in? All-new Mazda3 set for SA next year

  • Sedan, hatch, fully re-designed for global sale

LOS ANGELES, California – The all-new Mazda3 had its world debut today (Nov 28 2018) at the annjual Los Angeles auto show and will be hitting global markets early in the new year but South Africa only in the second half of the year.

Its maker says the cars have been fully redesigned will be rolled out to global markets in early 2019. The Southern Africa market can expect the new model in the second half of 2019.

The cars have what for some time has been the Kodo design language… it ”embodies the essence of Japanese aesthetics”. ”While the overall design is said to present a simple single form,” Mazda says, ”there are subtle undulations that bring the styling to life through shifting light and reflections that glide over the body surface.”

OK, then…

”The result,” Mazda adds, ”is a richer and more powerful expression of vitality than that seen on previous Kodo models. Despite sharing the Mazda3 name, the hatchback and sedan models (below) have distinct personalities. The design of the hatchback is dynamic, that of the sedan elegant.”

The powertrain comprises the latest SkyActiv-X, SkyActiv-G and SkyActiv-D engines, each having a smooth and responsive throttle control in any speed. Fundamental driving attributes such that accelerating, turning and braking, the carmaker says, ”all feel completely natural”.

Akira Marumoto, Mazda’s representative director, president and CEO, told The Corner: “The all-new Mazda3 we unveil today begins a new era for the company. This generation of Mazda cars will enhance the value of the car-ownership experience and though these products we will raise further Mazda’s brand value.

”We will work towards our goal of building ever-stronger bonds with customers all around the world.”

  • If you’re going to be in the area., the 2018 Los Angeles auto show will be open to the public from November 30 to December 9.
