TOKYO, Japan – The all-new Nissan Leaf Nismo race car, an electric race car with more than double the maximum power and torque output of its predecessor, was unveiled today (Nov 30 2918) in Tokyo.

The car, developed by Nissan’s racing arm Nismo, with its race technology know-how, will officially debut on December 2 at the annual Nismo Festival at Fuji International Speedway, alongside Nissan’s new Formula E electric race car.

ADVANCED BATTERIES

”With two electric motors, all-wheel drive and an assertive, but restyled,” Nissan says, ”the purpose-built car demonstrates how Nissan’s electric vehicle technology can deliver exciting, yet quiet and zero-emissions,(at least from the car),  power – vital to Nissan Intelligent Mobility.”

The cars will be equipped with advanced battery technology and drivetrain components from the Nissan Leaf, the world’s best-selling electric car mainly used by families.

‘THRILLING EXPRESSION”

Daniele Schillaci, Nissan’s global head of marketing, sales and electric vehicles, told The Corner in a media release: “The all-new Leaf Nismo shows how we’re setting our sights even higher when it comes to raw power and performance to make electric vehicles exciting for customers.

”It’s our most thrilling expression yet of the philosophy of Nissan Intelligent Mobility.”

Nissan says it will assemble six units for exhibition around the world to allow race fans to experience their power first-hand.

The electric motors, mounted at opposite ends of the chassis, are capable of 120kW each but, way more important, is the 640Nm of torque right from the moment the accelerator is pressed.

Together, Nissan says, they more than double the maximum power and torque of the previous Leaf Nismo of 2011.

A new all-wheel-drive, the automaker adds, has given the cars ”outstanding” cornering prowess. Power is managed independently to each axle, instantly supplying torque to the tyre with the best grip. Like the previous model, chassis balance is, as Nissan describes it, ”midships” with the battery pack, electric motors and inverters over the axles.

The shell is silver/black with red accents similar to the brand’s Formula E car, The concept is supposed to make the car seem to be in constant motion, even stationary.
