- Biggest Hyundai bruiser yet in the US
- Launch date some time in way-off 2020
- Rugged wheels, ‘captain’s’ seats available
LOS ANGELES, California – Hyundai has hoisted a new flagship SUV, the Palisade, into public view at the annual auto show here – a giant set of rugged wheels reported by Autocar India to be the largest vehicle yet from the Korea-based automaker.
The Palisade, already featured as a teaser on Carman’s Corner back in mid-November 2018, is reported as almost dwarfing the Santa Fe XL currently in US showrooms and is closely related to the also kinda giant Telluride from sister automaker Kia.
That monster is near as damn-it five metres long, two metres wide and 1.75m tall, riding on a 2.90m wheelbase.
The Palisade, Autocar India reports, is powered by 3.8-litre V6 petrol engine capable of 220kW / 355Nm and spinning an eight-speed autobox whose transmission can feed the front pair or all four wheels.
Hyundai’s HTRAC all-wheel drive comes with the usual driver-selectable Normal, Sport, and Smart modes, plus a new Snow mode for those American winters.
The wagon comes as a three-row eight-seater or as a seven-seater, the latter with ventilated ”captain” seats in the second row instead of a bench.
Features include wireless charging, a 27cm touchscreen, a 31cm digital driver’s display, and the ability to hook up two devices through Bluetooth at the same time – one for phone, the other for audio streaming.
It also has a head-up display, an intercom system, adaptive cruise control and a number of USB charging points. Hyundai says the roof-mounted aircon vents provide a first-in-class diffused airflow, which can be set at partial or fully diffused.

Functional decoration includes diode head- and tail-lights and 20” wheel rims. It’ll go down well in the US but we’d guess, will not make the South African market.
But hey, it’s nice to know it will be out there… (MORE IMAGES BELOW)
