Two Hyundai models top US consumer magazine testing

FOUNTAIN VALLEY, California – Hyundai’s Accent and Kona have been awarded America’s 2019  Consumer Guide Automotive Best Buy Awards for sub-compact cars and sub-compact crossovers.

”More than 150 entries were competing so the recognition,” the organisers say, ”signifies the finest balance of attributes and value in its class.” The guide has, for longer than 50 years, been one of the most respected unbiased new- and used-car review companies in the US.

Scott Margason, Hyundai Motor America’s director for product planning, told The Corner in a media release: “The Best Buy recognition for our Accent and Kona emphasises our efforts to deliver outstanding value through eye-catching design, advanced technology, and high-quality vehicles.”

The Best Buy trophy will be presented by Tom Appel, Consumer Guide Automotive’s publisher, at the 2019 Chicago Auto Show in early 2019.

The guide evaluates many vehicles throughout a year to determine which prove their value and available features. Those selected for the awards offer a combination of features and options, plus the dynamic qualities needed for safe, enjoyable and reliable transportation choices.

The Accent was reported as delivering ”outstanding value by making key features standard” – among them steering-wheel audio and cruise controls, Bluetooth and colour touchscreen with reversing camera.

The car also has a 60/40-split folding rear seatback and a 19cm Display Audio touchscreen system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto (available on most Hyundai products in South Africa) capability to display the most-used smartphone functions – satnav, streaming audio, and voice-controlled searches.

Each unit also has a tilt-and-telescoping steering-wheel with audio cntrols, Bluetooth and cruise control, and a 19cm touchscreen for Apple CarPlayand Android Auto.

The SUV is powered by a two-litre Atkinson-cycle four-cylinder engine or a 1.6-litre turbodiesel capable of 130kW and an electric version claiming a range of 400km  has also been announcedin the US.
