- Higher specification, additional accessories
- Option of cosmetic package or body-colour canopy
- S10 Karoo Edition produced in South Africa
JOHANNESBURG, South Africa – Indian automaker Mahindra’s South African sales team, to celebrate a surge in vehicle sales, has gone upmarket in the bakkie world with a 4×2 or 4×4 Mahindra S10 Karoo Edition.
Rajesh Gupta, CEO of Mahindra SA, told The Corner in a media release: “The Mahindra Pik Up S10 Karoo Edition is an encore to the special S6 Karoo Edition launched in December 2018 and which sold out very quickly.
”We believe the higher S10 spec is sure to do the same.”
LOAD BED COVER, FLARED ARCHES
The new Karoo Edition will launch with the S10 Pik Up specification – satnav, multi-function steering-wheel – but with Karoo trim added: that means a black cosmetic package for the off-road alloy wheel rims, a dark nudge bar, and a dark and branded roll bar.
For sure, The Corner thinks it’s a pretty handsome beast… but wait, there’s more… Mahindra has included a load-bed cover, flared wheel arches, and a wind deflector kit for each window.
Colours? Simple. You can have white or silver. Or a buyer can opt for a body-colour Beekman load-bed canopy.
Bossman Gupta added: “The special Karoo Edition of our S10 Pik Up will be available in limited numbers, immediately identifiable by a body-length decal.”
The Karoo Edition gets its name from the tongue-in-cheek brand campaign and TV advertising in which an intrepid adventurer searches for a lost lamb. The campaign was conceptualised and filmed in South Africa by Mahindra and its advertising agency, Joe Public.
…and so to the prices:
the S10 Karoo Edition costs R5000 more than the standard S10 model. The automaker explained: ”This means buyers can opt for the 4×2 Double Cab Pik Up Karoo Edition for R337 999 or the 4×4 version for R368 999.
Each is sold with a four-year or 120 000km warranty and a five-year or 90 000km service plan.
BUILT IN DURBAN
Gupta added: “Even with the extra specifications, the S10 Pik Up Karoo Edition is one of South Africa’s most affordable, quality, double-cabs. Our South African assembly plant is now fully operational so we can ensure that every Pik Up is perfectly suited to local market needs.”
All Mahindra Pik Up units are assembled at the Durban,KZN, plant.
