GENEVA, Switzerland – Peugeot will unveil a high-performance 508 Peugeot Sport Engineered concept at the 2019 Geneva auto show in support of its growing electrification strategy.
Peugeot Sport team confirmed in 2018 plans for a range of high-performance electric vehicles – the Engineered concept is ”the first step on the journey towards electrification”.
Peugeot started with a 508 Hybrid… the plan to enhance the cars’design, performance and efficiency. A PureTech 200 engine was slotted in, along with an, 82kW electric motor for the front wheels and a 150kW electric motor for the rears.
Then all-wheel drive was added. The result: 0-100km/h in 4.3sec, a (limited) top speed of 250km/h, and 50km from the battery pack alone.
MAKER GIVES IT WINGS
Flaps will be attached to the sub-frames to reduce aerodynamic drag, streamlined winglets on the quarter panels will help to ”smooth airflow”, and the car will be finished in a unique ‘Selenium Grey’ which changes hue according to the light source.
The showcase car will also have “comfort fit” leather/Alcantara upholstery, a compact sporty and asymmetrical steering-wheel covered with carbon-fibre inserts, a 25cm HD touchscreen and a 31cm head-up digital instrument display.
Peugeot has committed to an electrified version across its model range by 2023.
Peugeot CEOJean-Philippe Imparato told The Corner in a media release: ”Electrification provides a marvellous opportunity to develop new driving sensations. Were creating new energy sources, new features, new territories, new challenges… sheer pleasure for only 49g of CO2/km.”
‘OUR ELECTRIC DREAM’
David Peel, Peugeot UK’s MD, added: “Everybody involved in developing our electric dream is starting to move faster than thought possible. The Engineered concept shows what’s possible… gives us a taste of things to come over the next five years.”
