LONDON, England – The popularity i the UK of renting space on private driveways has soared in recent years as commuters seek to save cash on expensive inner-city parking.
YourParkingSpace.co.uk reports that bookings more than doubled during 2018 and that more than a quarter-million commuters saved almost £6-million (about R108-million) in parking fees by using rented driveways.
The increase in demand more than doubled, meaning UK car-users saved an estimated £5.7-million (R102-million) by booking with online parking portal yourparkingspace.co.uk.
RECORD RENTAL NUMBERS
Demand increased most in Liverpool, Derby and Bristol which saw a 290%, 195% and 183% rise respectively from 2017 to 2018. London demand grew by 125%.
Harrison Woods, YourParkingSpace’s director, told The Corner in a media release: “UK drivers are choosing to park on rented driveways in record numbers. Over the past year we saw a huge increase in bookings as people look to save money any way they can.”
Driveways in high demand are near train stations, airports, sports stadiums, music venues, and town/city centres.
Harrison added: “Current economic uncertainty means people are trying to reduce their expenditure and shopping around for cheaper parking is one way to do so.
HOURLY, WEEKLY, MONTHLY
“Road users can save almost 50%, on average, when parking hourly or daily on a rented driveway rather than in a pay/display car park or at on-street spaces. Even weekly bookings can save motorists 25%.
