MARANELLO, Italy – Ferrari has released the first official images of its F8 Tributo, a mid- rear-engined sport car that, the automaker says, ”represents the highest expression of our  classic  two-seater  Berlinetta”.

The  name  is said to pay homage  to  the  model’s uncompromising layout and to the engine that powers it – the most powerful V8 yet in the company’s history for other than a special series car.

”Ít’s set a benchmark,” Ferrari says, ”not just for turbos, but for all engines.”

The 3902cc V8 was voted “Best Engine” in the International Engine of the Year awards three years in a row – 2016-18. In 2018 it was also voted ”the best engine of the previous two decades”.

LIGHTER, BEST AERO

The  F8 Tributo is described by its maker as ”one of the fastest, most thrilling, most communicative supercars yet”.

”It replaces the 488 GTB with improvements to at-the-limit control along and cabin comfort. The car is lighter and 10% more aerodynamic to help bring the  best  performance of any car in the current range.

”The steering-wheel rim diameter is smaller and weight reduction has cut the car’s dry weight by 40kg if compared to the 488 GTB.”

CLASSIC COCKPIT

The F8 Tributo is described by Ferrari as ”a bridge to a new design language that will continue our performance and aerodynamic efficiency.”

The new, more compact, now horizontal,  diode headlights created space for new brake cooling intakes which, with those on the outside of the bumper, improve air-flow through the wheel arches and removed the need for bigger brakes to handle the greater speed.

The cabin is said to continue the classic driver-orientated cockpit; each element of the facia, door panels and transmission tunnel has been redesigned. The information screen complete with round air vents, new steering-wheel and revised controls that include a 19cm passenger touchscreen.
