- Jaguar Land Rover Experience Johannesburg opens
- Wide variety of test tracks and driving courses
- Restaurant, playgrounds, kiddie-cars, track tests
PRETORIA, Gauteng – It’s been more than three years in the making but the world’s biggest Jaguar Land Rover Experience facility is now open in the heart of northern Johannesburg.
What was once a rustic venue in the middle of 14ha of Lonehill veld is now a state-of-the-art lifestyle destination where families are welcome to enjoy a wide variety of activities for all age groups to showcase Jaguar and Land Rover vehicles and the lifestyles that, the automakers say, come with them.
The reception area has individual display zones for Jaguar and Land Rover vehicles, accessories and apparel. The rest of the area is for test tracks and kiddies’ fun zones.
The property is home to the Kingsley Holgate Expedition Trail – three kilometres of off-road tracks named to honour Land Rover’s ”long-time friend and global ambassador for the Land Rover brand”.
LOSE IT ON THE SKIDPAN
There’s also an Adventure Park with obstacles to test their vehicles – and driving skills.
A 70m diameter skidpan and a 185x30m ”handling platform” can handle various vehicles at higher speeds – all of these courses with the attendance of a driving instructor.
The Track restaurant in the main building is open from 8am-5pm, seven days a week for breakfast and lunch.
For the kids? No problem – there’s a miniature “Growler” racetrack where tiny electric Jaguar F-Types can be driven by children up to age five. Those aged three to 12 can learn some off-roading skills in quarter-scale electric Land Rover Defenders – also on a purpose-built track.
These activities, along with a jungle gym, and remote-controlled miniature Defenders, will be under the eyes of permanent child minders.
Personalisation studios – one for Jaguar, one for Land Rover – take the familiar process of configuring vehicles online to the next level. Visitors can build a digital version of their dream car on large touchscreens with a glorious selection of colour and material swatches.
Special arrangements can be made for product launches, events, conferences, casual meetings or team-building. A 52-seat cinema can be used along with a selection of conference rooms and private boardrooms with seating for eight to 50 guests.
