Vietnam F1 circuit to be built in Hanoi

HANOI, Vietnam – The south-east Asian country has commenced with the construction of a race circuit in intended to host its first Formula 1 in April 2020.

When completed, it will be the fourth street track – joining those of Monaco, Singapore and Azerbaijan.

International Automobile Federation president Jean Todt said at a ceremony to launch construction of the 5.565km circuit: “This major event will give Vietnam – particularly its capital – international exposure.”

The country has little in the way of a motorsport – even ordinary sporting events tradition but what there is is said to be ”passionately celebrated”.
