SEOUL, South Korea – Kia Motors has revealed three concepts at the 2019 Seoul auto show with which the brand hopes to display the brand’s design direction.

Two made their international debut there but the huge and rugged Kia Masterpiece had centre stage with its large SUV body and what its maker called ”a luxurious, high-tech, cabin”.

It was joined on stage by the Signature, a concept intended to preview the design and layout of an upcoming compact SUV from the brand.

IMPETUS FOR GLOBAL SALES

Also present was an example of the Imagine by Kia concept car, an all-electric sport sedan that, Kia says, ”embodies Kia’s desire to create exciting, low-emissions, cars”. ”While each concept hints at Kia designers direction,” Kia says, ”it also illustrates elements of the brand’s future models strategy.

”An expanding range of SUV’s and crossovers has provided the impetus for Kia’s long-term global sales growth. The Masterpiece and Signature provide an insight into Kia’s future range.”

The Imagine by Kia concept is said to show how the brand ”plans to excite drivers with future electric vehicles with stunning exterior and interior design, intelligent packaging and cutting-edge technology.”

The Masterpiece, Kia says, hints at how the brand could adapt its latest designs and features to the large off-road SUV segment. The automaker said: ”The exterior of the car is characterised by sculpted bodywork and bold lines with an SUV stance and raised body, powerful all-wheel drive, rugged looks and ‘go-anywhere’ ability”.

The vehicle has a new version of the Kia logo and ”tiger’s nose” grille but, Kia says, with no clear boundaries between grille and diode headlights.

The cabin has Kia’s latest architecture with its horizontal facia spread across the cabin and, the brand says: ”The design matches the robust exterior and its ‘glasshouse’ floods the cabin with light. Finishes are luxurious, previewing Kia’s latest comfort and convenience technologies, mood lighting, a 31cm touchscreen, and the brand’s latest driving assistance features.”

Kia calls the Signature ”an evolution of the design with the international debut of the Signature concept”.

IMAGINE BY KIA

The ‘Imagine by Kia’ concept, revealed recently at the 2019 Geneva international auto show, now makes its Asian debut in Seoul. The fully electric sports sedan concept has been designed at KIA’s European design centre in Frankfurt, Germany.

Gregory Guillaume, design VP for Kia Europe, said: “We imagined designing an all-electric car that not only answered consumer concerns around range, performance, recharging networks and driving dynamism, but one that also gave you goose bumps when you looked at it and made the hairs on your neck stand up.

”That’s why our all-electric concept is designed not only to get your pulse racing but to also signpost our holistic and emotional approach to electrification.”
