JOHANNESBURG, Gauteng – Suzuki has upgraded its Ciaz sedan with a new look, more specifications, and a new 1.5-litre engine and they are already in Suzuki showrooms across South Africa.
The Ciaz upgrade also introduces Suzuki’s (the capitals are Suzuki’s) Smartphone Linkage Display Audio to the GLX and adds a model – a Ciaz 1.5 GL a/t – to the range.
”There will be no mistaking the new Ciaz from its predecessor,” Suzuki says, ”thanks to a new painted grille that stretches the full width of the nose between the headlights for a more modern and purposeful visual signature.”
The grille is now framed by chromed inserts – a theme for the GLX – continues through the shoulderline and door releases, and terminates in a new chromed garnish strip above the number plate on the boot lid.
The diode headlights are automatic on the GLX and paired with daytime running lights. The GL now has halogen projector headlights.
The lower, trapezoidal air-intake has been redesigned to match Suzuki’s other most recent new models by being larger and more assertive and is flanked, on the GLX, by diode foul-weather lights in large, chromed.
”In provide,” Suzuki says, ”the Ciaz has 15” steel wheel rims with wheel covers for the GL and the designers specified new 16” polished chromed whrims els for the GLX.
At the rear the GLX adds diode combination lights and each model has a central high-level brake light on the rear window.
The Ciaz 1.5 GLX (manual or auto) is equipped with Suzuki’s new 7” SLDA touchscreen audio system.
The system, also recently added to GLX units of other Suzuki models, combines full Android Auto, Apple CarPlay or MirrorLink smartphone integration with modern features such as a reversing camera and rear parking radar. as well as Bluetooth connectivity and voice commands.
There’s also a 10.6cm colour information display on each specification to convey driving information such as range, fuel consumption, and outside temperature.
The Ciaz GLX also has cruise control, auto aircon, power folding external mirrors, combination leather upholstery, footwell lighting, individual rear reading lights, and a retractable rear sunshade.
Remote central-locking continues on the GL models and the GLX havebeen upgraded to keyless access with a start/stop button.
The GLX also builds on the GL specification which includes power windows, remote-controlled locking, aircon, steering-wheel audio control, a central armrest/storage bin, rear aircon vents and a second 12V socket for rear passengers.
All models carry the same dynamic and passive crash protection equipment: front crash-bags, anti-lock brakes with electronic pressure distribution and emergency assistance..
A high-level brake light is included – as anti-theft measures, child-proof rear door locks and side-impact protection on all doors.
Suzuki has not only upgraded the Ciaz styling but also replaced the 1373cc engine with a 1462cc engine with multi-point fuel-injection and variable valve-timing.
The new engine delivers 77kW at 6000rpm and 138Nm at 4400rpm – seven kW and eight Nm more than its predecessor. ”Fuel consumption has,” Suzuki admits, ”increased marginally to 5.5 litres/100km for manual and 5.6 litres/100 km for auto models.
The engine spins either a five-speed manual or four-speed auto gearbox, the latter now also also in GL units.
All Ciaz models will be sold with a three-year or 60 000km service plan and a promotional five-year or 200 000km vehicle warranty.
The range is available immediately in a choice of white, red, brown, silver, blue, grey or black metallic. Find your nearest Suzuki dealer here.
