JOHANNESBURG, South Africa – Hyundai’s Creta SUV has been tweaked with the addition of three top-end flagship distinguished by a number of styling addition – but if you like what you see here you’d better moved quickly.
Only 500 will reach the automaker’s showrooms in South Africa but cover each of the three current Creta models – 1.6 Executive manual, 1.6 Executive auto, and 1.6 Executive turbodiesel auto.
Apart from the Limited Edition moniker, these features will identify the cars:
• Black roof to create a two-tone effect – the rest of the shell being white.
• Two-tone 17″ alloy wheel rims;
• A black and red, leather-upholstered, cabin with red inserts on the facia.
• An infotainment system with Apple Carplay and Android Auto connectivity for which customers can buy an optional SD card for R2100 for an off-line navigation function if they do not want to use Google Maps, Waze or Apple’s Maps on Apple Carplay or Android Auto.
As with the other Creta derivatives, the Limited Edition can be fitted with a black or chromed nudge bar and black or chromed side skirts.
Hyundai SA has, since its launch in 2017, sold more than 11 600 Cretas – the model riding below the Tucson SUV in terms of size and price.
Convenience features in the Creta include air vents for the rear passengers, a rear armrest with cup holders, cruise control, rear parking radar/camera, and a multi-function, leather-wrapped, steering-wheel bearing satellite controls for the audio controls, trip data computer and information system.
Three engine/gearbox combinations will be available::
Creta 1.6 Executive manual – Four-cylinder 1.6-litre petrol engine with a six-speed manual gearbox, the engine capable of 90kW at 6300rpm / peak torque of 150Nm at 4850rpm. Fuel consumption of 7,9 litres/100km is said to be possible..
Creta 1.6 Executive auto – The same petrol engine as above but coupled with a six-speed auto gearbox and capable of 8,4 litres/100km.
Creta 1.6 Executive Turbodiesel auto – 1,6-litre turbocharged diesel engine spinning a six-speed autobox. Maximum power 94kW at 4000rpm / peak torque 260Nm at 2750rpm, potential for 7,4 litres/100km.
The Creta’s ride quality and road-holding are achieved using a McPherson strut front suspension with gas-filled shock-absorbers and rear shocks on a torsion-beam axle ”for better cornering performance”’.
The cabin is said to be remarkably quiet.
Hyundai adds: ”The Creta is one of the toughest and strongest SUVs in its segment. It’s designed with a strong shell with ring-shaped frames applied at the centre and rear pillars.”
Crash mitigation equipment includes front, side and curtain crash bags, anti-lock brakes, and electronic braking control.
