MUGELLO, Italy – Ducati’s Danilo Petrucci has at last scored a win in the international MotoGP series, beating off Honda’s World champion Marc Marquez and with Ducati’s Andrea Dovizioso third.
Petrucci, 28, was third on the grid and from the start it was a bruising encounter at the front of the pack with the lead swopping between the Ducatis and the Honda.
The 28-year-old, who started third on the grid, cruised to victory in 41 minutes, 33.794 seconds ahead of Honda’s world champion Marc Marquez and his team mate Andrea Dovizioso.
The battle went on right to the final lap but Petrucci held off Marquez by his moment in the final lap to deny championship contenders Marquez and Dovizioso.
Championship leader Marquez moved up to 115 points in the overall standings, ahead of Dovizioso (103) and Suzuki’s Alex Rins (88), who finished the race in fourth place.
