- Lexus confirms convertible version of flagship LC coupe
- Debut on The Hill at 2019 Goodwood Festival of Speed
- Start of production expected in near future
GOODWOOD, England – Visitors to the 2019 Goodwood Festival of Speed in the UK saw the world debut of a Lexus LC Convertible prototype in action on the famous The Hill course over July 4-7. The car, we’re told, took its place among some of the world’s most exclusive and prestige new cars .
The convertible sport coupe, its maker says, will broaden Lexus’ luxury lifestyle offerings for ”a completeness” to the brand’s flagship units.
”The LC,” Lexus announced, ”has quickly become established as one of the most sought-after and internationally acclaimed models thanks to its combination of striking design, fine craftsmanship and exhilarating performance.”
The potential evolution of the range to include a convertible was signposted at the North American International Auto Show in January 2019 where Lexus revealed the LC Convertibleconcept, said then to have been designed to express ‘Ultimate Beauty’.
”It provoked,” Lexus said, ”an enthusiastic response from industry experts and the public. Like the LC itself, the concept car was honored on its debut with a prestige EyesOn Design Award.”
The car is described as ”long, low and lean” and, its maker says, will share the coupe’s athletic proportions but project a distinct identity. Its large wheels and short overhangs, Lexus says, ”will signal its performance pedigree and rewarding driving experience”.
The prototype model, as the images show, carried teasing the design detail and dynamic capabilities of the full production version.
Professional race driver Nick Cassidy drove the prototype up The Hill at Goodwood. He’s with Lexus Team KeePer Tom competing in the GT500 class of the Super GT series in Japan. After Goodwood the prototype LC will be taken to various venues to collect feedback for the engineers.
Lexus International executive vice-resident Koji Sato told The Corner in a media release: ”The Goodwood Festival of Speed celebrates the history and culture of the automobile and serves as a gathering place for some of history’s most notable cars and drivers.
”Lexus is honoured to join in and and I could not be happier that to unveil this prototype of the LC Convertible at the same venue where the LC coupe made its debut in 2016.”
- Detailed specifications and timings for the LC convertible’s market introduction will be announced at a later date.
