HOCKENHEIM, Germany – Formula 1 championship leader Lewis Hamilton has put Mercedes on pole position for the brand’s 200th race, the German GP while Ferrari took a pasting from engine problems.
Red Bull’s Max Verstappen will share the front row while Mercedes’ Valtteri Bottas will start third but Ferrari’s Sebastian Vettel will start stone last thanks to a sick turbocharger.

His team-mate Charles Leclerc was also sidelined in the final phase with a fuel issue but will nevertheless start 10th.
The pole was a record-extending 87th of Hamilton’s career.
