JOHANNESBURG, South Africa – Now, The Corner is told, is the time to secure entry to the Concours South Africa 2019, described by its organisers as ”the finest spectacle of classic motors, where horsepower meets luxury living”.
The finest classic, luxury and sport cars from pre-Second World War to the modern era will be showcased in the Steyn City lifestyle resort.
Exhibits include what is believed to be the oldest car in South Africa, an Oldsmobile Curved Dash, through to what is arguably the most exclusive supercar in the world, the artisan-crafted Pagani Huayra.
‘FINER THINGS IN LIFE’
Organiser Paul Kennard told The Corner in a media release: “Pre-book – tickets will not be available for sale at Steyn City on the day. This is an exclusive event for those who appreciate the finer things in life.”
Various hospitality packages are available ranging from branded corporate open marquees for up to 100 daily VIP guests through to tailored, individual, day-passes.
The event will open on Friday August 30, with the 120 classic and supercars moving into their ‘arena’; the dedicated eight-hectare parkland site where the “Best of Show” will be judged.
Friday evening will see Graham Duxbury and Basil Green’s induction into the South African Hall of Fame. This event will follow 2018’s Concours induction ceremony when Rory Byrne, Michael Schumacher’s seven-times championship-winning Formula 1 designer, was inducted at Steyn City.
Judging will start the following day. The iToo Classics judging panel involves eight of the continent’s foremost classic-car aficionados who have the formidable undertaking of identifying Southern Africa’s best classic car.
HAVE LUNCH, WATCH PRIZE-GIVING
It’s all about originality and provenance, The Corner was told. ”The idea is to showcase a classic car in as close to its original condition as possible.
Besides pristine panels and shimmering chrome, the judges are looking for that 1970’s Lindsay Saker dealer sticker on a VW Beetle 1600, the unblemished Cellophane wrapping on the Volvo P1800 S owners’ manual, maybe even a case of 1960’s Budweiser in your 1966 Mustang Fastback’s boot!
Sunday will see the top 10 cars being assessed by all eight judges and the prize-giving will be after lunch.
