Suzuki SA brings GLX spex to sporty Swift range

JOHANNESBURG, South Africa – Suzuki fans who want the high specification level of the Swift Sport, but who do not necessarily opt for the additional power of the BoosterJet engine, can now choose a Suzuki Swift with GLX specification level.

The new Suzuki Swift 1.2 GLX takes a leaf from the highest specification level of models such as the Ignis and Vitara, such as auto aircon and a 19cm touchscreen infotainment system.

The new model will be available with the choice of a five-speed manual (R199 900) or a five-speed automated-manual transmission (R214 900).

André Venter, divisional manager for sales and marketing at Suzuki SA, told The Corner in a media release: “We can now offer a luxury hatchback that not only beats most of its direct competitors but also has a higher specification than more-expensive hatch competitors.”

LUXURY TOUCHES

The Swift 1.2 GLX has new 15” alloy wheel rims under 185/65 profile tyres, the external mirrors and door releases are colour-coded but the grille and all door pillars are blacked. Parking sensors have been recessed into the rear bumper.

Lux touches in the cabin include a leather-wrapped steering-wheel and height-adjustable driver’s seat. The already-mentioned colour display can handle voice commands, Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, Bluetooth and USB connectivity.

It will also show the image from the car’s reversing camera.

Other upmarket items include auto aircon, keyless access, and a a sporty Start/Stop button while the spex from less costly models are still present: IsoFix kiddie-seat anchors, two front crash-mitigation bags, central locking, LED taillights, a third brake lights and power windows..

An immobiliser and theft alarm system are also standard.

The Swift GLX has a 1.2-litre petrol engine capable of 61kW at 6000rpm / 113Nm at 4200rpm and 170km/h. The auto version is five km/h slower.

Every Swift 1.2 will be delivered with a two-year (or 30 000km) service plan and five-year or 200 000km promotional mechanical warranty.
