
SEOUL, South Korea – Beautiful, isn’t it? It’s the Genesis Essentia concept and it’s just been awarded a gold design award by the Industrial Designers Society of America
IDEA is considered to be one of the world’s top three such organisations and has been around since 1980 to evaluate the best of automotive design through considering design innovation, users’ benefits, and social responsibility.
In 2018 Genesis Retail Design and Genesis Sound Design were recognized for a “best of the best” award by another such organisation, Red Dot.
FIRST LOOK WAS AT NEW YORK SHOW
Luc Donckerwolke, executive vice-president and chief design officer, told The Corner in a media release: “We’re extremely proud to have been recognised by IDSA with the Essentia Concept. It shows the Genesis brand’s vision and future.
“For a new brand, each design element becomes part of that brand’s legacy. Our goal is to design a car through the Genesis DNA.”
The Essentia Concept was unveiled at the 2019 New York International Auto Show, It’s the brand’s first electric Gran Turismo (GT) concept and, the automaker said, ”was recognised for its interpretation of ‘Athletic Elegance” design while providing a vision of future Genesis products’ performance and technology”.

The battery-electric Essentia Concept, it maker says, ”has a luxurious look with a simple, clear and sleek exterior and a custom cabin”.
”The interior focuses on maximizing the connection between the driver and the car and the overall decoration was reduced to combine restraint with futuristic impressions”.
Sang Yup Lee, head of the Global Genesis Design Centre, added: “We show Genesis DNA through reshaping existing luxury car design. This is the foundation of our design philosophy ‘Athletic Elegance’.”
