JOHANNESBURG, South Africa – Volvo On Call (VOC), an app-based cellphone service that can help drivers to communicate with their cars, is coming to South Africa.
VOC can remotely lock/unlock a car, check the fuel level, and pre-cool/heat the car before its driver arrives, each through a smartphone, smart watch, tablet, or desktop.
Greg Maruszewski, MD of Volvo Car South Africa, says Volvo on Call is a key to the digital world. “One app gives Volvo drivers control over their car’s functions. It also provides access to a world of convenient services.
MISPLACED CAR? NO PROBLEM…
“It becomes a personal assistant… tell you about the best coffee spots and send the destination to your car’s satnav. It will remind of appointments, where they are, and how to get you there, remind you to lock the car, and call emergency services to the location in the event of a crash.”
Forgotten where you parked in a strange town? “The app will show you and give directions to get there. Maruszewski added: ”You can even ask your car to hoot and flash for five seconds to identify itself and guide you to its location.”
FREE FOR FIVE YEARS
Drivers of vehicles other than a Volvo can download the app free to try it in demo mode.
Volvo On Call will be standard in South Africa with effect from model year 2020. It will be included in the purchase price for five years after which a small fee* will be levied.
